/// My name is:
Alfonso Gómez Arzola
I am a graphic designer, type enthusiast and occasional photographer based out of Madison, Alabama.
AGARZOLA is my freelance design practice, in which I intend to concentrate on print, exhibition, environmental & music design. I also practice photography every once in a while, particularly shooting portraits of musicians, artists, writers and other craftspeople.
Having recently moved to the United States, I am currently exploring the freelance market in the Tennessee Valley region around North Alabama, South Tennessee and Northeast Mississippi.
I am self-taught in matters of design and typesetting, and I’ve had the privilege to work with people whose experience and expertise have helped shape me as a design professional. I took various photography courses at the University of the Sacred Heart in Santurce, Puerto Rico, (as part of a Communications major) but also gained most of my formative experience freelancing as a photographer’s assistant to various high-profile commercial and fashion photographers on the Island.
I am a member of the AIGA and abide by its standards of professional practice. You may download my résumé here (PDF) and contact me by sending an email to alfonso [at] agarzola.com
Designer’s statement:
Design is an expression of human intelligence and sensibility and, as such, should be useful for more than merely helping us choose between brands, not because humans are good for more than the mere sale of things, but because we are good for more than the mere consumption of things. Thus, the artifacts and conventions produced by design should help shape our experiences, facilitate our comprehension and encourage our intervention in the world.
I wish to design useful, efficient, engaging things that help make someone’s life easier, more fulfilling & better informed.
